5th & 6th Grades
Mrs. Becky Swanson
I was born and raised in Minnesota. I attended Bethany Lutheran College and earned my associate’s degree. I attended Mankato State University studying Art Education and was a Resident Assistant at Bethany Lutheran College. I moved to Tacoma, Washington and received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Education from the University of Puget Sound.
My goal while my children were young was to be primarily at home with them and I substituted part-time for several years for Tacoma School District, Clover Park District, and Franklin Pierce District. Our family relocated to the Vancouver area and we began attending Grace Lutheran Church. After I received my call to teach at Grace Lutheran School I continued my education at Martin Luther College and became certified.
I began teaching here at Grace Lutheran School in 1994. I serve the Lord, teaching his lambs in the 5th and 6th grade. I love to teach God’s word and enjoy watching my student’s growing in their faith. I enjoy teaching all the other subjects as well. I appreciate that I can put my art knowledge to work here as I teach art in grades 5-8. I find that they are not the only ones learning. I learn from them also.
My husband and I have three children. Our eldest, a daughter, is a senior at Bethany Lutheran College. Our son is studying to be a pastor at Martin Luther College. Our youngest, a daughter, is a junior at Evergreen Lutheran High School. I had the unique experience of teaching all three of my children at Grace.
I am thankful for the opportunity to teach here at Grace Lutheran School. We know the plans that God has for us (Jeremiah 29:11-13a) and we can trust him to help us carry out the work he has for us to do. "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you declares the Lord."
